Este curso tem como objetivo explorar outras potencialidades, tendências
e formas cinematográficas, que não a do cinema clássico; formas
experimentais, ou de vanguarda, cinema de transgressão, anticomercial,
não narrativo. A exposição teórica se dará acompanhada de exibições
de trechos de filmes e, em seguida, discussões entre os participantes do
curso. Iremos traçar um panorama histórico com a análise de alguns dos
mais significativos períodos e expoentes do cinema experimental, sobretudo
obras realizadas entre as décadas de 20 e 70.
Encontro 1: Definições e indefinições do experimental. Percursos do experimental
ao longo da história do cinema: Vanguarda Francesa, Cinema
Puro, Dadaísmo e Surrealismo.
Encontro 2: Maya Deren e o uso criativo da realidade. Cinema Underground:
Kenneth Anger e Jonas Mekas. Cinema Abstrato: Stan Brakhage.
Cinema Estrutural: Peter Kubelka e Hollis Frampton.

This course aims to explore potentialities, trends and cinematographic forms,
other than classic cinema; experimental or avant-garde forms, transgressive,
anti-commercial, non-narrative cinema. The theoretical exposition
will be accompanied by film excerpts and discussions among participants.
We will trace a historical overview with the analysis of some of the most significant
periods and exponents of experimental cinema, especially between
the 20s and 70s. There will be 2 meetings, lasting 3 hours each.
Meeting 1: Definitions and uncertainties of the experimental. Paths of the
experimental throughout the history of cinema: French Vanguard, Pure Cinema,
Dadaism and Surrealism.
Meeting 2: Maya Deren and the creative use of reality. Underground Cinema:
Kenneth Anger and Jonas Mekas. Abstract Cinema: Stan Brakhage.
Structural Cinema: Peter Kubelka and Hollis Frampton.
